What is the recommended GT course load per semester?

0

In terms of the number of GT courses per semester, we recommend a 2-3-3 sequence over 3 semesters or a 2-2-2-2 sequence over 4 semesters, for a total of 8 GT courses, assuming that these 8 courses meet the GT MS degree requirements and that you can transfer in 2 courses (6 credit hours) from SJTU. Even though you are used to taking 7-8 courses per semester as an undergraduate student, GT courses are fast-paced and are challenging because they are taught in English. Keep in mind that you also have SJTU coursework or research work to do so it is not wise to take on a heavy GT course load which can lead to inferior academic performance. If after the first semester you feel that you can handle more GT courses, you can make adjustment then. In general, we discourage any Dual-MS student from taking 4 GT courses in a semester. Please be aware that your GT MS degree will not be granted until you have obtained your SJTU MS degree so you may have several semesters to take the GT courses.
