A Pennsylvania State Police helicopter has joined the search for a missing Penn State freshman, university officials said. The helicopter took off at about noon today to assist Penn State police in their efforts of locating Joseph “Joe” Dado, 18, who was last seen at about 3 a.m. at Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji) fraternity, Penn State spokesman Geoff Rushton said. “The helicopter can cover a lot of ground quickly,” Rushton said, urging anyone with information to contact the police. As at least one helicopter patrols the air, Penn State officials are using Facebook groups and the university newswire service to help spread information about the incident, Penn State spokeswoman Annemaire Mountz said. Dado has not attended his first two classes and has three more classes scheduled for today, Mountz said.
