The school’s own newspaper is generating news by winning an award: This just in: The next issue of Hoover High School’s student newspaper will have some good news to report. The Challenger won the prestigious George Gallup Award, the highest honor for a scholastic publication from The Quill and Scroll Society, the international honorary society for high school journalists. The paper, which is published every two weeks, competed last spring against thousands of high school student newspapers from all over the world. Co-editors of The Challenger at that time were Edward Rodriguez, now a senior, and Bea Rendon, who graduated in the spring. Rodriguez is now the editor. “We always want to make (the newspaper) better,” Rodriguez said. “We’re always talking about how we want to take it a step further.
