What is the real underlying philosophy of Appreciative Executive Coaching?
The philosophy can be summed up in the phrase “From Success to Significance” Appreciative Executive Coaching works best with leaders who are already successful–executives who are capable and are already doing well in their careers–people who are interested in focusing their energies increasingly on goals and activities that hold real meaning for themselves. Appreciative Executive Coaching operates from the assumption that the colleague already possesses the strengths s/he needs. The coaching process, then, is designed to help the colleague develop insight regarding her/his capabilities and their implications – their possibilities. In contrast, deficit models of coaching emphasize problem-solving – fixing aspects of behavior or style that are problematic for the client.
