What is the real story behind TITANIC…..?
It was a time when many liners were crossing the Atlantic. The White Star Line planned to build three huge ships, the biggest liners ever, The Titanic would be first, followed by The Gigantic, and I forget what the third one was called. On its maiden voyage the Titanic was put in the hands of their best captain. For publicity purposes he wanted to set a speed record. The Titanic was not just the biggest but the fastest ship of its day, and people cared about speed. He should have been going slower in the dark in an area where there were known to be icebergs. He was taking a calculated risk. The ship had bulkheads that divided it into watertight sections. It was thought that even if it sprung a leak in one or two sections the ship would still remain afloat. Because it was ‘unsinkable’, the company stinted on the lifeboats; there weren’t enough for all the passengers. The people on the ship saw the iceberg and tried to turn.
