What is the real purpose of infant dedication?
Dedicating an infant has far more significance for the parents than it does for the child. While the pastor will ask God’s blessing and pray for the child, the main purpose of the dedication is to allow the parents to make public commitments to the church, and ultimately God, concerning the rearing and nurturing of the child. It is an opportunity for the parents to publicly declare they will, to the best of their ability, rear their child according to Scripture and do everything they can to help the child grow in his or her understanding of God and His Word.
