What is the Raster Profile?

0

The raster profile is titled SDTS Raster Profile and Extensions (SRPE). It will be approved by FGDC in 1998 as Part 5 of the SDTS. The SRPE applies to two-dimensional raster grid or image data that may optionally be georeferenced. The raster profile supports the transfer and archive of image data, digital terrain models, gridded GIS layers, and other gridded data. The extensions allow alternate file formats to be used to encode image data. The extensions permitted by this profile are the Basic Image Interchange Format (BIIF), TIFF, JFIF, and JPEG. SRPE will accommodate USGS DEM’s and DOQ’s. For more detailed information of the Raster Profile, see: http://thor-f5.er.usgs.gov/sdts/standard/latest_draft/pdf/srpe11s.pdf This file is in Portable Document Format (pdf) and requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
