What is the railroads role in the alignment?
The proposed alignment will go to the north of the Union Pacific railroad tracks. The new RR crossing at 6th Street will go over the alignment road. With the change in track grade, one of the positives will result in a ‘no whistle’ zone. The RR has prior rights and jurisdiction over its tracks, track rights-of-way, and speed. In addition, Union Pacific’s long range plans include constructing a third rail on a statewide basis. Alignment plans require the approval of Union Pacific because their facilities are so integral to the structure of the plan.
