What is the Radio Amateurs Examination (RAE)?
The RAE is a single paper multiple-choice examination held twice a year at City & Guilds Examination Centre. It tests electronic theory, license conditions, interference & operating procedures. The examination is 2hours 15 min. The Examination Centre may also make a charge. Several books exist for self-teaching of the necessary subjects to pass the RAE and these are available from the RSGB , amongst others. In the case of either an Intermediate or a Full Radio Amateur License, the license issued is a Class ‘B’ license. A Morse code test of 5 words a minute plus IRAE = Class ‘A’ Intermediate.

The C&G reference is 765. The C&G charge GBP18.45 (1996 level) for each paper, a Pass on both is required. The Examination Centre may also make a charge.
