What is the quality of life in the Philippines?
Majority are poor, some are average-income earners living aspirational lives, few are rich but they own most of the country’s wealth. Poor people either beg in the streets to eat, or live by meager income to feed their family. Families are big with many kids, Filipinos justify that their children as their only “wealth” . Most of them live in squatter areas where houses are made of scrap materials, kids loiter in the streets often playing without slippers on, toddlers walk around naked, oftentimes with skin diseases from the lack of sanitation in the area. Ironically, many of these households have a television set at home and a radio. Most adults in such families also own mobile phones. The better ones earn money by selling general merchandise (operating sari sari stores), some work as housemaids, some do the laundry for other people to earn, some rent out their washing machine, some of the men work as carpenters or contract workers.
