What is the quality of generic drugs?
Qualitative characteristics of the generic drugs are stipulated by the fact that the generic drugs are equivalent to their brand name counterparts in terms of biological and therapeutical equivalency, thus, any generic drug should have the identical active chemical compound and quality of its brand name analogue. The same equivalency is necessary in terms of absorption speed of drug active ingredients into the bloodstream. There is a possibility that colour and shape of the genetic drug may differ from its brand name counterpart due to commercial or patent reasons, however, it does not affect medical efficiency of the drug.
To be considered “bioequivalent / therapeutically equivalent” to its brand name counterpart, a generic drug must have the identical active chemical compounds as well as the quantity and speed of absorption of its active ingredients into the bloodstream. Sometimes the generic version of a drug may differ in color or shape from its brand name counterpart – these differences have no effect on the medical action of the drug and are for commercial or patent reasons only.
Generic drugs must have identical active ingredients, the quantity and speed of absorption of its active ingredients into the bloodstream as their brand name counterparts. Therefore, the quality of generic drugs is the same as its brand name counterparts, even if they differ in shape or/and color.
