Examine the prepared slide of the cross-section of a sunflower stem (Helianthus). Notice the bundled arrangement of xylem and phloem in the stem of this dicot. Compare this arrangement to the root of the dicot. Examine the cross section of the stem of corn/maize (Zea). Note that the vascular bundles are scattered throughout the pith, a characteristic of monocots. Compare this arrangement to the root of the monocot. Answer questions 7 and 8 (pp. 353 and 355). Observe the difference between simple and compound leaves. Differentiate between palmate and pinnate compound leaves. Observe the venation in leaves, and f
