What is the purpose of the Regional History Museum Feasibility Study?
A Regional history museum would provide the opportunity to display and interpret some of the 40,000 artifacts already in the Region’s collection. An orientation centre for the living history village would provide essential visitor amenities and information, in keeping with the needs of the community and the role of Doon Heritage Crossroads as a first class institution. The purpose of this project is to consult with the community and to conduct an objective assessment of the feasibility of each component of the project. If the project components proved to be feasible, a variety of options were to be considered including combining the Regional museum and the orientation centre and locating them at Doon Heritage Crossroads; separating the two and having a new museum located somewhere else, with an orientation centre at Doon; or possibly having a series of small ‘satellite’ museum or exhibit facilities distributed across the Region, without a major new facility.
