What is the purpose of the RCH (Land) Act?
The Act provides the necessary legal changes to the status of the new hospital site so that the new hospital can be built. The outcomes of the Act are outlined below. The site of the new RCH was previously Crown land, permanently reserved for public park purposes. Its use was restricted by the Crown Land (Reserves) Act 1978. The Act revoked the permanent reservation over the construction site, making it unreserved Crown Land, capable of being dealt with under the Land Act 1958. Removing the reservation allows the site to be used as a construction site, and ultimately for hospital purposes.
