What is the purpose of the physical inventory project?
Physical inventory teams from the partnership will take an inventory of desktops, printers and other computer equipment at nearly 2,000 state agency sites across Virginia from late February through June, 2007. The purpose of the inventory is to provide a clear picture of the current IT infrastructure and validate existing inventory data. This project will serve as the baseline for the transformation of the current IT infrastructure, including desktops, servers, helpdesk, network and voice/video, and serve as the basis for computation of the amount an agency will be charged under VITA’s new rate structure. The physical inventory will be conducted causing agency employees as little inconvenience as possible, but some minor disruptions may be necessary to accurately capture all of the required data.
