What is the purpose of the Mesa Mile Upgrade Project?
Although the Mesa Mile has been regularly maintained over time, it has not been fully resurfaced since it was built in 1966. Four decades of wear and tear means it’s time to remove the damaged surfaces and re-lay asphalt. An uphill bike lane and downhill side pedestrian sidewalk are added amenities to the project. The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) is the managing entity of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and is responsible for road maintenance under a cooperative agreement with our primary funder, the National Science Foundation (NSF).
