What is the purpose of the IMI pilot stage?

The IMI pilot stage is intended to allow competent authorities the opportunity to test and practice sending and receiving requests for information before the system goes ‘live’ on the 27th December 2009. The system is constantly evolving and the feedback that is received will allow the European Commission to make any changes that are deemed necessary and therefore improve the usability and effectiveness of the system in the future.
