Failsafe dual brakes (both engage instantly when the attendant lets go) make STAXIs the safest transport method for outdoor pathways of varying elevation (not to mention their weather resistance.) For the same reason, airports and airlines discover that STAXIs are safer than wheelchairs on ramps generally, but even more so while reversing downhill, with the attendant walking backwards. STAXI’s strong anti-tip bars were added specifically for this purpose.
