What is the purpose of the Expenditures Survey?
The two expenditures surveys (housing and household) are surveys of expenses incurred by professional staff members and their families both inside and outside of their duty station of assignment. The purpose of the surveys is to collect data to be combined with similar data collected from the other duty headquarters duty stations in order to derive the expenditure weights to be used in the calculation of the post adjustment index (PAI) for all duty stations around the world for the 2010 round (2010-2015). In other words, the surveys determine the relative importance of the various categories of expenditure in the PAI structure, and hence the expenditure patterns of international staff, that are used in the calculation the PAI.
