What is the purpose of the European Health Insurance Card or Medicare (Oz)?
It is a reciprocal arrangement within the EU whereby you are entitled to free medical care in state hospitals/clinics. Medical Policy Excess is waived when the Insured uses their European Medical Insurance Card Medicare is a reciprocal arrangement between Ireland and Australia. This entitles the insured to free public health treatment in Australia. Once they enter hospital they should tell the administration that they want to enrol in Medicare.
