What is the purpose of the DHMH Division of Internal Audit?
The Division of Internal Audits performs periodic examinations of the accounts, records, procedures, policies, etc. of DHMH administrations and local health departments to help safeguard the Departments assets by minimizing various internal control risks. It also coordinates responses to external audit reports and ascertains/monitors corrective action taken. The Division attempts to prepare the DHMH units/local health department for a Legislative Audit. Additionally, we examine the agencys internal controls in place over critical processes and recommend ways to improve problem areas. Our objective is to minimize repeat legislative audit findings by ensuring that the DHMH administration has implemented corrective action that is sufficient to resolve the legislative audit findings that existed in the previous legislative audit. Additionally, the Division seeks to prevent future audit deficiencies by reviewing problem areas that we see as trends that are continuously cited as audit defici
