What is the purpose of the computer ratings?
In any competetive league, there should be an objective and robust method to measure the performance of each team/individual. Win-loss records may be misleading if teams play disparate schedules, and polls suffer from human limitations and subjectivity. After devising a mathematical model for the sport, an algorithm is implemented, and the resulting computer ratings objectively quantify the strength of each team based on the defining criteria.
