What is the purpose of the Band Parents Association? Do I have to attend the meetings for my child to be in the band?
Though attendance at Band Parent meetings isn’t strictly required, it is highly recommended. At the meetings, decisions and announcements are made regarding upcoming events and issues are resolved regarding band activities. The marching band can only function effectively with significant parent involvement. Having said that, if all parents take on some volunteer work, no individual parent has to work all that hard. This can be as simple and off-the-cuff as selling raffle tickets at a single football game, helping kids find uniforms that fit during band camp, or bringing food for the kids to share at home games. For those who are willing to join a small, informal team to get the social benefits, there are opportunities to help in the Pit Crew, Band Parent Association management team, fund-raising committees, or Band Banquet committee. Though requests will be made as needed for people to help with whatever needs to be done, people are never pressured to take on volunteer activities they
