What is the purpose of the Auto-Timer setting on my JVC VCR?

In order to run a timer program, record a TV show at a later time, the “TIMER” indicator must be lit. This can be done in one of two ways. First, after entering all of the program data, DATE, START TIME, STOP TIME and TAPE SPEED, press the “TIMER” button on the remote control. The VCR will shut off and the “TIMER” indicator will light on the display. The VCR will be locked into this mode and you will not be able to turn it on unless you first press the TIMER button, again, and then POWER. The other option is the AUTO-TIMER feature. By setting this function to ON, all you need to do is shut the VCR off with the POWER button and, as long as there is a program set, the VCR will automatically display the TIMER. The VCR will not be locked using this feature; you need only press POWER should you wish to turn on the VCR. The method you use is a matter of personal preference.
