What is the purpose of ense in the English language?
In English there are only two tenses, simple present and simple past: I live in Greece I lived in Greece All other forms are called ‘aspects’: Progressive aspect: I’m living in Greece Perfective aspect: I’ve lived in Greece. Future forms are made with either simple present or present continuous aspect, or use of a modal auxilliary: Present simple My flight leaves at six tomorrow Present continuous I’m meeting Nick next week ‘Will’ I’ll tell you later Future perfect continuous I’ll have been libing here 20 years by next friday So in English, tenses are present and past, and forms expressing ideas such as completion and duration are known as aspects.
