We need to represent knowledge about: • Objects in the domain, their properties, and relationships between them. • States and beliefs. • How people solve problems. • Actions and events. • Models and theories. • Algorithmic calculations. Rules are best for representing experts’ heuristics for problem solving, for states and beliefs (this is true IF …), causal sequences of events, and some types of model. They can be used to represent the other types of knowledge, but not so easily.
