What is the purpose of my “inbox” folder and how is it supposed to work?
Files that other users wish to share with you (and only you) can be copied to your \inbox folder. Even though it’s your inbox, the person who copied the file to your inbox is still technically the owner of the file and the file counts against their storage quota. Therefore, once a file has been copied to your inbox, the following actions can occur: • You can open, read, delete, or copy the file to some other location if you wish to permanently save it (e.g., to your “private” folder). • The file owner can open, read, modify, delete, or copy the file—even after it has been copied to your inbox. • Everyone else can see the list of files that are in your inbox, but they cannot open, read, delete, or copy them. To prevent university members from consuming all of their storage quota by sharing files with one another over time, files that have remained in your inbox for longer than 30 days will be automatically deleted.
