What is the purpose of louvers?
Louvers are a series of vents located on the top and/or bottom of the firebox. They function to pump the heat from the firebox into the room. When louvers are present the firebox generates “circulating heat”, named regarding the way in which the heat circulates through the room, from the firebox louvers. From a designer’s perspective, louvers can take away from the complete look of the fireplace because louvers add detail on the face of the firebox where the mantel should be showcased, and cannot be obstructed or covered.
