What is the purpose of “hazing” in military or fraternities or sororities?
This is a big question and it deserves an equally full answer. I’ll do my best to share what I know, and leave you to come back to me if you need more. Hazing is a term that is normally applied to a form of collective testing, where each individual is subjected to extreme physical demands coupled with verbal abuse. The intention is to take the subject to the limit of their tolerance and then push them beyond it. The individual is constantly accused of being the one who is letting the whole group down. As the process progresses, the Hazers start to work one on one with the subjects for short periods before moving to another subject. My first experience of this was on joining a service engineering college. From the time of our arrival, we were made aware of our responsibility to carry forward the honour of the Corps.
