What is the purpose of having Advisory, X-block and SIGS (Student Interest Groups)?

Advisory is our way of making sure that each student at HTHI is known well by at least one adult. The responsibilities of the advisor include: • being committed to knowing each advisee well • monitoring advisee academic progress and completion of graduation requirements • assisting advisees with college and career preparation • advocating for advisees and facilitating communication with teachers • serving as a liaison between the family and the school • completing a “Home Visit” for each incoming 9th grader (to meet the family and answer any questions about the school) Advisories consist of approximately 16 students from grades 9 through 12 and meet once a week on Friday afternoons. The following themes are covered during that time: Community, Culture, College & Career. Students stay with the same advisor during their 4 years at HTHI. Each year they are required to complete a checklist of activities in order to pass advisory. The advisory requirements tie into these 4 themes and help s
