What is the purpose of foster care?
Foster care provides a temporary family for youth who have experienced abuse or neglect. Usually, the local children services board attempts to reunify children with their families. When reunification is impossible, children remain with their foster parents until they are adopted (either by their current foster parents or another family), or they are old enough to live on their own (usually 18).
