What is the purpose of Directive #16?
Directive #16 encourages and supports the use of bicycles and other alternative forms of transportation on campus by faculty, staff and students as a means of promoting sustainability and reducing emissions, pollutants and energy usage. The use of bicycles and other alternative transportation is limited or restricted only when necessary to provide for the safety of all members of the campus community and/or protect University property. Directive #16 permits bicycles to be ridden almost anywhere on campus when parking permits are not required. It also creates a bicycle committee and mandates that this committee, among other things, make recommendations concerning the location and type of bike racks used on campus.
