What is the purpose of a lactate dehydrogenase test?
Lactic dehydrogenase is present in almost all body tissues, so the LDH test is used to detect tissue alterations and as an aid in the diagnosis of heart attack, anemia, and liver disease. Newer injury markers are becoming more useful than LDH for heart attack diagnosis. Source: The Gale Group. Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, 3rd ed.
