What is the punishment for attempted murder if found guilty?
Under Philippine Jurisdiction, the penalty for attempted murder is prision mayor (with a period of imprisonment of 6 years and 1 day to 12 years) together with accessory penalty of temporary absolute disqualification and perpetual special disqualification from the right of suffrage and civil interdiction. Temporary absolute disqualification as an accessory penalty deprives the convict of the right (1) to hold public offices and employment which the offender may have held, even if conferred by popular election; (2) to vote in any election for any popular elective office or to be elected to such office; (3) disqualifies the convict for the offices or public employments and for the exercise of any of the rights mentioned during the term of the sentence. Perpetual special disqualification from the right of suffrage has the effect of depriving the convict PERPETUALLY of the right to vote or to be elected to such office.
