What is the punishment for adultery?
A lot of scholars say that it is capital punishment for adultery if it can be proven according to the proven procedure. For fornication it is 100 lashes. The punishment is given to either sex, meaning that married men can be stoned to death as well as women. Some people argue that the Arabic word in the Quran is the same for adultery and fornication and it says the punishment is only 100 lashes for either, so stoning to death is wrong. Regardless of which, it is very rarely done, as you have to have four witnesses to them actually performing the deed. This makes the guilt of both cases very hard to prove, and offenders are urged to repent and live a chaste life henceforth.
