What is the PTG?

The PTG is the Piano Technicians Guild. It is a national organization of piano tuners and technicians, manufacturers, and retail outlets. The local chapter of the PTG is the Savavnnah/Charleston chapter. Guild members are divided into two categories: RPT and associates. RPT’s or Registered Piano Technicians, are members who have successfully completed an extensive battery of tuning and technical exams demonstrating to a national board experience and expertise in piano service. Associate members who most often identify themselves as “Members”, are those individuals who have not yet taken and passed such exams. While some of these people are qualified technicians who simply have not yet gone through the testing process, most are simply students of the trade with some skills yet to be developed. The Piano Technician’s Guild conducts on going training throughout the year at chapter meetings, regional conferences, and an annual National convention.
