What is the Prosperity Gospel?
The Prosperity Gospel is a product of the Laodicean church age. It has come out of the Pentecostal and Charismatic movement, and it emphasizes the here and now, as opposed to the coming millennial kingdom. Since it emphasizes the here and now, it focuses on bodily healing and the accumulation of goods and riches rather than true spiritual growth. When the Bible speaks of healing, the Prosperity Gospel assigns it to physical healing rather than spiritual healing. It also assigns spiritual blessings to current happiness and prosperity, rather than spiritual health and stability. The Lord is more concerned with our spiritual maturity than with our physical health, and virtually all of the warnings and admonishments in the Bible pertain to our spiritual condition rather than our physical condition.
