What is the proper way to dispose of needles, lancets, and other “sharps”?
When you use: Needles Lancets Syringes You must properly store them in an approved Sharps Container. Other containers, such as milk jugs and coffee cans are not considered safe or acceptable for sharps storage. Ask your local pharmacy or Bio-Med of your resident state for details. Do not use clear plastic or glass containers. Place used lancets, needles and syringes in container. Drop sharps in container immediately after use. Dispose of syringes as one unit. Do not attempt to remove, bend, break or recap the needle. Storage and Disposal Store out of reach of children. Tightly seal the container when 3/4 full. Your garbage collector is most likely prohibited by law from collecting garbage that contains sharps. Return filled sharps containers to a certified biohazard disposal facility or call your local board of health for trash disposal ordinances and further instructions.
