What is the proper etiquette for a housewarming party?
A housewarming party is a party held on the occasion of moving into a new, purchased residence , apartment or condo. It is an occasion for the hosts to present their new home to their friends, and sometimes for friends to give gifts to furnish the new home. Housewarming parties are generally informal; usually there are no planned activities besides a possible tour and perhaps some light refreshments. If you have a religious base, you might want to invite your pastor or minister to the home to offer a blessing and an anointing over the home. The dress is usualy casual and refreshments can be cold cuts, cheese, salads, shrimp, or if you like to cook – a full blown meal. Depends upon the host.
Proper etiquette is to send out invites or e-vites with at least several weeks notice. You do not request gifts, you do not register, you do not ask anyone to bring anything. You provide lots of seating, decent food, and a variety of tasty beverages. As a hostess, you should be the first person they see when they arrive and the last person they see when they leave. Be sure to be around to help introduce people that don’t know each other and start conversations.
