What is the progress on the new National Tourism Policy (NTP) and what are the highlights?
At this juncture, the government during the tourism conclave with state representatives were heading forward to a new dynamic policy. However, the meeting was cancelled due to the American tragedy. Another meeting is looking at being scheduled shortly. Generally though, the tourism policy is shaping up to be promising. The centre is also waiting for suggestions from all the state departments of tourism. The last NTP was formulated in 1982, which clearly reflects that it is not efficient for the industry at this juncture. The new NTP though is modern, and the policies stated within are undoubtedly very apt for tourism as well hospitality. Through the tourism policy, the government is looking at being a facilitator and assistor in pushing the industry towards success and substantial growth.
