What is the progress of Metro in Kochi?
‘Kerala Govt has accepted DMRC report on metro rail’ Kochi, Dec 5. (PTI): The Kerala Government has accepted the detailed project report of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) with regard to the proposed metro rail system in this city, a top official of the DMRC said here. In his keynote address at a function organised by the Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry here, DMRC Managing Director E Sreedharan said the Government had engaged DMRC on December 28, 2004 to carry out studies for the metro system. DMRC has already urged the Government to appoint a dedicated full time official on special duty to implement the project. “It was accepted by the Government and a decision on the matter is expected very soon, he said. He said, the report had had recommended a ‘Light metro rail for Kochi’ in the first phase from Aluva to Petta. Extension to Tripunithura could be considered after roads in the town were widened, he said. The advantages of a metro system are that it would meet transpo
