What is the prognosis for Legionnaires disease?
Appropriate medical treatment has a major impact on recovery from Legionnaires’ disease. Outcome is also linked to the victim’s general health and absence of complications. If the patient survives the infection, recovery from Legionnaires’ disease is complete. Similar to other types of pneumonia, severe cases of Legionnaires’ disease may cause scarring in the lung tissue as a result of the infection. Renal failure, if it occurs, is reversible and renal function returns as the patient’s health improves.
