What is the process to become a foster family?
The process begins with the first call to Westside Children’s Center by a prospective foster family. An information packet will be sent and interested adults can schedule orientation to learn more and become registered for training. During the MAPP Training, each adult living in the home must be be fingerprinted and child abuse indexed to make sure that the adults living in the home do not have an extensive criminal background or prior report of child abuse. The family needs to fill out paperwork that provides background information on family members. A family assessment, otherwise known as a “home study,” will then be conducted by a social worker from the agency. The social worker will go through the house and show you what you need to do to satisfy the state regulations and will conduct individual and family interviews.
