WHAT IS THE PROCESS REQUIRED BY STATE OF ILLINOIS STATUTE FOR CHANGING THE NAME TO UNIVERSITY PARK?

0

1. The Illinois Secretary of State verifies that the name University Park is available. Your Ad Hoc Committee has been assured, in writing, by the Secretary of State that University Park is available. 2. A number equal to one-half of those residents voting in the previous village election in which a village president was elected have to sign petitions for the change of name from Park Forest South to University Park. In the last village Presidential election of April, 1983, 1380 residents voted. Thus, a minimum of 690 registered voters in the community have to sign petitions. 3. If the required number of signatures is obtained then the Village Board of Trustees provides public notice of a public hearing for public opinion on the name change. The hearing will be held in not less than fifteen days or more than thirty days from the date of public notice. 4. After the public hearing, the Village Board of Trustees may consider the desirability of changing the name of the community from Park
