What is the process of the Unity Sand Ceremony?
The process mimics the lighting of the unity candle performed at traditional weddings, with sand used instead of flames. After exchanging their vows, the bride and groom each hold a container or vase filled with sand in their choice of color, and then pours it into a central vase. The sand union is often accompanied by prayer, music, or a special reading. The couple may choose to leave some sand in their respective vases to symbolize that their individual personalities will remain intact after the wedding. The officiant usually presents the newly married couple immediately or soon after the sand ceremony.
