What is the process of making Quoit Boards?
The slate is mined from the earth in large slabs that typically weigh between 1-2 tons. They are then cut with a diamond saw into smaller sections and then grinded down and sanded to 1 inch thickness. The sanding process gives the quoit board its unique texture. The fabrication process is our specialty. We designed machines to drill and countersink the quoit board and to scribe the circles that determine the scoring. We currently can manufacture 12 complete quoit board sets per hour of production with two skilled laborers.
