What is the process of checking in to a mental health clinic?
I’m writing a book, and I don’t want to leave anything out, or be incorrect. A: It depends. Are you talking about inpatient or outpatient? If you’re going to go inpatient, typically it’s through referral by a psychologist, psychiatrist, or doctor. This can be either for a chronic and debilitating illness, rehab, or danger to self or others. If it’s danger to self or others, there are lots of ways it could go about. For example, if someone was holding a gun to their head and ready to commit suicide but was restrained, you could drag that person to the hospital or call an ambulance. The same goes for if the person was going to hurt someone else. It’s even possible to check yourself in, actually, but this is rather rare. There’s both voluntary and involuntary admission. If it’s outpatient, you typically go and set up an appointment with a therapist. You may have to fill out paperwork so they can figure out who to put you with, how to handle your insurance, what issues you have, or any of
