The first place to start is to check out the website for the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service, abbreviated the UCIS. They have a website that will take you through the process of applying for legal immigration status. Generally speaking it’s a three step process. An employer or relative fills out a petition that they submit to the UCIS. Once that’s approved it’s then sent to the national VISA center and while very few VISAs are issued each year, once a VISA is issued it’s then sent to the Unites State Consulate or United States Embassy in your country for processing and that’s the process.
