What is the process of adding Data Elements to the Data Dictionary?
All Data Elements that are identified should be sent to the Data Dictionary Administrator. This is currently Dan McCreary. Once the Data Elements are identified as non-duplicates of Data Elements that are already in the Data Dictionary the Data Element will be assigned to one of several Data Element Approval Teams (DEAT). The Data Element will also be marked with it’s DataElementApprovalStatusCode set to be “initial-draft”. Each Data Element Review Team meets on a separate schedule, sometimes weekly, sometimes quarterly depending on urgency of the Data Elements under review. When they do meet, they will review the Data Element and decide if it should become a candidate for publishing in the Data Dictionary. If they accept the data element they will change the DataElementApprovalStatusCode set to be “assigned-to-review-team”.
