• In order to submit a proposal as a Principal Investigator(PI ) or Co-PI., the researcher must be an employee of the University of California, San Diego and have an eligible/qualified title to submit proposals. For further information, please refer to the Summary of Eligibility Status. An exception can be approved under certain conditions, use the Request for Exception to Submit Proposal for Extramural Support – PI Exception form. • General Campus: please send the original PI Exception form to Research Affairs. The exception needs to be “in progress” with Research Affairs before the proposal will be submitted. • Scripps Institution of Oceanography: the exception needs to be approved by SIO and “in progress” with Research Affairs before the proposal will be submitted. • Health Sciences: the exception needs to be approved by the Health Sciences Sponsored Proposal Pre-Award Office (HSSPPO) and “in progress” with Research Affairs before the proposal will be submitted.
